How can people protect nature and repair places that have been damaged?

We already learned that people and pollution can harm habitats. Conservation and restoration are two different responses: one protects what’s still healthy; the other fixes what’s been damaged.
What is conservation?
Conservation means keeping ecosystems, species, and natural resources safe so they can continue to work and provide benefits. It often focuses on preventing damage—creating parks, limiting hunting or building, and keeping water and soil clean. Conservation helps maintain biodiversity, the services ecosystems give us (like clean water and pollination), and places people value for recreation and culture.

Restoration means actively repairing a place that is degraded so it becomes healthier and more like its natural state. Projects aim to bring back native plants and animals, improve water flow, reduce erosion, or remove pollution. Restoration doesn’t always recreate the exact past state, but it tries to restore functions that support life and human needs.
