The character 力 originally depicts a bent arm or muscle and is used to express physical strength, force, and power more generally. You will see it in words about physical ability (e.g., 力持ち), effort or capacity (努力, 効力), and technical power (電力). Readings: On'yomi: リョク (ryoku), リキ (riki) — used in compounds like 電力 (でんりょく, denryoku) and 力学 (りきがく, rikigaku).
